No Water Festival for 2022

Phnom Penh: The Head of the Royal Government of Cambodia, Prime Minister Hun Sen, has decided to suspend the celebration of the Royal Water Festival for 2022, however, the provinces and capitals throughout the country can organize accordingly its practical possibilities.

This decision was made at a cabinet meeting this Friday morning by PM Hun Sen.

A statement from the Council of Ministers did not specify the reason for the suspension, but it was likely due to concerns about the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

The Statement State that: “The organization of the Water Festival for the people in the capitals and provinces throughout the country is possible, including the Pchum Ben festival in September and the Water Festival, Boats float lanterns and worship the moon in November to entertain the people, increase the tourism environment, as well as provide opportunities for people to earn money.”

The Royal Water Festival 2022 will be held from the 7th to the 9th of November 2022.

This is the third year that the Royal Water Festival has been suspended after 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19 Crisis.
